Stepping back to go forward
Sometimes in life we can keep pushing forward and get no where. It’s only when we step back and not push as hard that we are able to get to where we want to go. I’m not saying to give up but sometimes we need to push pause and regroup.
Pursuing you dream
My husband has always wanted to own his own coffee shop. He has talked about it for as long as I can remember. When he had saved enough money he started to pursue it. He researched everything he would need to do and started looking for a building to start his business.
The researching and looking for a building took 2 years. When he had finally found a building he liked and thought would work he was so excited. I could tell he couldn’t wait to get started. Unfortunately his offer on the building wasn’t accepted. He was devastated since he couldn’t find another building around.
He spent every minute he wasn’t working looking for a new building or researching what he could do.The stress of this entire process was getting to him and having an effect on our family. He knew he needed to put his dream on hold until a building came available. A week after he took a step back from pursuing his dream he saw an ad for a coffee shop manager. He figured he would go for it and this way he can learn some more about running a coffee business. He got the job and started working for a small local coffee shop.
Dreams do come true
My husband spent two years working hard as the manager of this coffee shop. He still dreamed of opening up his own shop but he knew it wasn’t the right time. He loved working in this coffee shop and even though it wasn’t his place he treated it as though it was. The owner saw this and caught him completely by surprise one evening when she asked if he wanted to buy it and take the business over.
We were both completely shocked. Of course he said yes and we started the process of taking over the coffee shop. My husband is now the owner of his own coffee shop and I couldn’t be more proud of him. It may have taken longer then expected but he never gave up. He may have stepped back and pushed pause but sometimes you have to step back to go forward.
The point of this story is to remind you that sometimes pushing too hard to get where you want can burn you out. I’m not saying you shouldn’t work hard but sometimes taking a different approach is what you need. My husband needed to step back and put his dream on hold for a few years. He was still working hard and his dream eventually found it’s way back to him.
I’m not saying to ever give up on your dream but maybe now isn’t the right time. If you are pushing and pushing and getting no where then maybe take a step back and reevaluate. If you know without a doubt that you want to keep pursuing it then go after it but just know that maybe life has a different way of bringing it to you.
