10 ways to incorporate self-care into your day
We all know that self-care is important but with our busy schedules it’s hard to find any time to fit it in. We want to take better care of ourselves but finding the time is hard. Self-care doesn’t have to take hours. you don’t have to carve out a huge amount of time. Fit self-care into little moments though out the day.
When you first wake up
Before you even get out of bed take a minute and say three things you are grateful for. This simple act will make you feel better before your day even begins and it take less than a minute. Being grateful for things is a part of self-care. It makes you appreciate life more which makes you want to enjoy it more.
In the morning
If you are a morning person then get up a little bit earlier than you normally do. Pick whatever amount of time works for you and get up that much earlier. I’m a little crazy and I wake up 2 hours before my kids. This works for me because I am a morning person. Your self-care routine doesn’t have to be 2 hours long but if you can get up even 10 minutes earlier than do it.
In the shower
I know I do most of my thinking in the shower. Instead of running through your to-do list for the day try taking a minute to just breathe. Relax into the water and just enjoy the warmth of it. Taking just a few moments to be still and relax will help you prepare for your day better.
We usually get dressed and do our makeup in the same room so turn on a podcast or a Youtube video and listen to something inspirational. Some of my favorite podcasts are The Alison Show and Wild Cozy Truth. Some good Youtube channels are Abby O’Keefe and Ted talks.
In the car
Most of the time in the car we have the radio on. Turn it down and enjoy the quiet. Just be with yourself and focus on your breathing. Even if your car ride is short you can still take a few minutes to just breathe.
At your desk
Whether you work in an office or from home, you can take a few minutes to pause your work and clear your mind. This is especially worth doing if you are having a stressful day. Put the work away for a few moments and just close your eyes and focus on your breathing. It will help calm you down.
In the bathroom
If you can’t close your eyes at your desk then head to the bathroom. Take a moment there to reset yourself. If you are at home this works to hide from the kids for a few and take a moment to regroup.
When you walk through a parking lot take a few moments to notice things around you. Look at the clouds, trees or birds. Take a few moments to appreciate things will make you feel so much better.
Waiting in line
How many lines do we wait in a week? I know I wait in at least 5 if not more. Take that waiting time to read a book, look at inspiration quotes or just be still. Take any opportunity you have when you are just waiting for something to fit in some self-care.
If you are not a morning person then stay up a few minutes later and do some self-care. Go to bed 10-15 minutes after you usually do so you can focus on you. Don’t go overboard and interrupt your sleeping time because sleep is a very important self-care tool but do fit it a few extra minutes at the end of your day.
You have to take time for yourself it’s so important. Go through your day and find any spare moments that you can to take some time for you. It doesn’t have to be hours long.
