You do not have to do everything

There’s this way of thinking now that we have to get everything done. We have to be on top of everything and fit all the things into our schedule. Just writing that sounds exhausting. Well I’m here to tell you that you DO NOT have to do everything!

You do not have to do everything for your kids.

I have had a hard time with this one especially with my youngest because I know he’s my last baby but I’ve had to learn to let go and pick my battles. If I want 10 extra minutes to get myself ready in the morning then he has to get himself dress, which means going to school looking like this some days:

Hey at least he has clothes on 🙂

Find something that your child can do for themselves (even if it’s not perfect) and let them do it. Take it off your schedule and give yourself some more time.

You do not have to do everything for your house

We all want clean houses but some weeks I can’t even find the time to sweep the floor. It’s ok not to get it done sometimes or ask for help. Hire one of your kids to clean. My kids have daily chores that they do not get paid for but then I offer extra chores for money. My middle daughter takes full advantage of this. I get my house cleaned (not perfectly but hey cleaner than it was) and she gets some extra spending money. It’s a win win.

You do not have to do everything on your schedule.

This is a hard one for me. If it’s written on my schedule I feel that I must do it even if I don’t feel like it. If you promised to make cupcakes for a school party but the night before you are just exhausted and don’t feel like it, there is no shame in buying ones from the store. It’s easier and quicker. You do not have to attend that PTO meeting if you just don’t feel like it. Cuddle with your kids instead. They will not kick your kids out of school because you didn’t attend one meeting. Figure out what is important to you and make sure that gets done.

Now we all have to do things that we don’t want to do and sometimes there’s no way out of it but don’t fill your schedule with those things everyday. Schedule in some quiet relaxing time.

I wrote a post with tips to help you when you are feeling that you need to get everything done. You can read it Here.

You do not have to feel like a failure if you can’t do everything

If something doesn’t get done do not beat yourself up over it. We all get busy and I’m sure others will understand. You are only human and you are allowed to make mistakes. Just shrug it off and focus on what’s important. You are doing the best you can so just give yourself some grace.

[…] You do not have to do everything. You can say no to some things. People will understand. If it’s something you just can’t fit in or you really don’t want to do – then say no. I know saying no is hard but trust me it will be such a relief to not have to do something that you just didn’t have time for or hate to do. I wrote a blog post about how you don’t have to do everything that you can read HERE. […]
