I have a vision in my head of what my “perfect” life looks like. I have a beautiful house, new car, well behaved kids (all the time), nice clothes and I never have to worry about money. But who really has that? No one and even if they did, it doesn’t mean that they are happy. You have to learn to be happy where you are now. If you aren’t then what makes you think that buying things is going to change that.
My husband and I are trying to sell our house. It is too small for us and our three kids. But we are making it work because we have to. Is buying a new house magically going to make all our problems go away? No they will still be there just with a bigger mortgage payment now. We have to be happy in this house or we will start making our kids miserable. I don’t want them to think that we need something bigger to be happy. When we do move I want them to remember this house with happy memories not complaints about the size of it. It’s been hard keeping our happy faces on since our house has been on the market for a year and a half. We have had four offers fall through. Very frustrating, but we keep going.
When things don’t go perfectly it sucks. We have such high hopes and they are crushed. It’s alright to be upset about it but don’t let it dictate your life. Look around you and see everything that is going right. On my bad days I look at my kids. They are healthy, active and for the most part happy. That is all I could ask. I would give up my “perfect” life just to make them happy. They are my happy. Find the one thing in your life that is your happy and think of that whenever things don’t go right.
