Adding more gratitude
The have been millions of posts written about how you should be writing down what you are grateful for every day and I do believe that you should. But we need to do more then just write them down once and forget about them. It is so easy to focus on our problems and let them bring us down but we need to step up the gratitude that we do have in our lives. Here are a few tips to add more gratitude to your life:
Reword your problem
I love this tip because it helps you view what is troubling you in a different light. Take the problem you are having and turn it into something positive. If you are upset because your boss called you out in a meeting. Stop and view it as “I have a job that helps me provide for my children and take care of them and yes I have to deal with difficult people but it helps me support my family”. While you can still be mad at your boss this statement makes you grateful for at least having a job. There are probably hundreds of people who would love to have the problem that you are having right now so be grateful that you even get to experience it.
Keep your gratitude book with you
When you are having a bad moment take out the book you write about what you are grateful for and read it. It will help you remember the happy moments and all that you have to appreciate.
Write them down throughout the day
Since you have your book with you, write down things that you are grateful for as soon as they happen then you won’t forget. It can be as simple as it’s sunny today. It’s the little things in life that make up the big things so write them down too.
Give yourself grace
There will be days when you cannot be happy and bright and grateful for things. We are allowed to give ourselves those days. Do not beat yourself up. You cannot be perfect. You are human and make mistakes and need time to sort through your emotions. If you do not feel like being grateful even though you know you should – it is ok. Go through the emotions that you need to but don’t let them overtake you.
Just try to add more gratitude into your life through the day and remember all you have to be thankful for.
